Friday News 23.6.17

Dear Parents/Carers,

Next week’s school target is to follow the end of playtime routine, playing sensibly and safely at all times.
Please take time to talk about our school values for next week with your child.

We promote mutual respect and tolerance so that adults and children have a good working relationship and engage with British values.

Reception are our top attendees this week with 100%. Fantastic!

We are delighted that a Muslim Imam, Mr Kotwal, will be visiting our school on 4th July. This is to help support children’s understanding of Islam as an important part of our RE curriculum. Mr Kotwal will run workshops with some of our classes and we hope that all children will have the chance to meet him in an assembly.

You will be aware that improving attendance is important to us, and is part of a wider government agenda. Pupils whose attendance drops below 90% are regarded as ‘persistent absentees’ on the termly census. North Yorkshire County Council have advised that we send their standard letters to parents of pupils who are at risk of becoming persistent absentees, or who already meet that threshold. We do this termly, and letters for the summer term will be sent soon. We appreciate that the tone of the letter is not our usual style but this is a standard text written by the County Council and in the interests of fairness and equity we send the same letters to everybody.

We know that children have enjoyed the recent spell of hot weather and we are very proud of the ways that they have kept themselves safe, by wearing hats and playing in shady areas. Please remember to apply suncream before school as this will help protect them at playtimes, even on cloudy days.

The hot weather has affected everyone, including staff and parents. Inevitably, people are tired and there is a great deal to do at present. We know that we don’t get everything right, and welcome your feedback so that we can improve. However, there have been instances when people have been unduly negative or critical towards staff which is unhelpful. If you have a concern, please raise it with your child’s teacher in the first instance. We would encourage you to do this in a constructive way. If this does not solve your problem, you should then alert Mr Weights who will try to resolve the issue with you. We also have a formal complaints procedure which can be found on our website. Please note that governors have an agreed code of conduct that we expect all parents to adhere to so that we can maintain a positive and effective partnership.

There will be a change to the menu on Friday 30th June as we are having a special lunch for the Y6 pupils that are leaving, they have chosen their favourite lunch which is Pizza for main course and arctic roll for dessert.

Please see attached flyer regarding a York Junior Triathlon – The event is for all abilities, from those doing their first triathlon, to those who are super-competitive, and they pride themselves on making it a fun and welcoming atmosphere on the day. This could be just the opportunity for a young person to discover their love for sport! The venue is York Sports Village where they have full use of the 1km tarmac cycle track, as well as the 25m indoor pool and grass running area.
