Next week’s school target; remember to stay outside at playtimes.
You may be aware from the news that the government has a strategy to develop teaching schools across the country. These are the very best schools that are at the cutting edge of educational training and development. Following serious consideration by governors, we have decided to apply to become a teaching school. If successful, this will enable us to access opportunities to research and develop highly effective teaching methods in partnership with other schools across the STAR Alliance. Obviously, there will be enormous benefit to our children in doing so. We will also be responsible for training new teachers and school leaders which will help to reflect upon our own outstanding practice. We are not in a government priority area for teaching schools which may impact upon our bid, but remain optimistic that we have a very strong application. The outcome will be determined before the end of the term and we will provide further information in due course.
Please remember that if your child is physically sick or has diarrhoea we have a school policy (following medical advice) that they remain away from school for 48 hours. This is to help reduce the transmission of infection. We have a particularly virulent strain of sickness that is currently affecting some children in school and would appreciate your support in managing the spread of the infection.
As a result of the Tour de France/Tour de Yorkshire Legacy, funds have been made available to set up Bike Libraries around the country. Bike Libraries maintain and repair donated bikes and lend them out to whoever needs them in the local area. Anyone in the community can request a bike loan using the link below. Our nearest Bike Library is based at Tadcaster Grammer School and is run by Steve Green of Positive Youth (see link for further details).
As part of this scheme, the Bike Libraries would like to work with schools and the Bikeability team to enable all pupils to have access to a bike and be able to take part in Bikeability.
If you have a bike that you would like to donate, then please bring it into school week commencing 14th March, unfortunately we cannot accept bikes before this date as we don’t have anywhere to store them.
There is a vacancy for a Crossing Patrol Officer in Monk Fryston, please see attached flyer for full details.
