Earlier this term, Mrs Law and Miss Dales travelled to our Erasmus+ partner school in Germany for the third Bookworms In Europe Project meeting. They visited the Freiherr-vom-Stein Grundschule in Gladenbach, near Frankfurt. Staff from all the partner schools met to discuss the project’s progress, confirm the ‘next steps’ and observe classes across a wide age range. The aim of the project is to improve children’s reading skills and motivation to read books. Partners share effective strategies in teaching children to read with the aim of enhancing their performance in later life.
Upon their arrival, visitors were treated to a superb Welcome Assembly – a musical extravaganza performed by the children. Lessons observed included: intervention sessions for refugee children; book review presentations delivered in German and English by the children; biography presentations and performances and reading intervention sessions.
Our children are now looking forward to finding out all about a number of our national authors and sharing their findings with children across the project.
